Fun Thing To Do: Watch the Capitals Practice

Practices are free, open to the public and close to home

Last week I wrote a column in which I outlined places in the area where, in keeping with the spirit of winter, readers could lace up and go ice skating.  I also conceived this article at the same time, but had originally planned to submit it in a few weeks.  I didn't want to do two ice-oriented articles so close together, and hockey season lasts into April (and the playoffs last until June).  This past weekend's Winter Classic, though, has put hockey, at least momentarily, front and center in the consciousness of people in this area.  For those who missed it, the Capitals won 3-1 over the Pittsburgh Penguins in an outdoor game at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA before 68,111 fans and a national television audience.  On Wednesday night, HBO …
