A federal jury found Robert Fenn, a former special education teacher at Poplar Tree Elementary School, guilty on two counts.
A former Poplar Tree Elementary School teacher has been convicted in federal court of possessing child pornography. The jury found Robert Fenn, 27, guilty on one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, at the end of a two-day trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Alexandria. Fenn was indicted in December by a federal grand jury, months after he was arrested. Authorities had conducted an international investigation dubbed Operation Gondola. The operation originated with Italian law enforcement, who investigated a website called "liberalmoraility.com" that offered access to child pornographic images and/or video files. Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty. Robert Fenn, 27, of Herndon, a former teacher at Poplar Tree Elementary School, was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on charges of child pornography. Police said after Fenn's arrest in June that he worked at the school as a special education teacher for students in kindergarten through third grade. No school equipment or students at the school were involved, Fairfax County Police said at the time. UPDATE: Robert Fenn, a teacher at Poplar Tree Elementary School in Chantilly, arrested Tuesday on child pornography charges after school let out at 3 p.m., likely attended a bond hearing this morning at the Fairfax County Courthouse before a bomb threat closed the courthouse. The investigation of Fenn originated with the U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations unit, also known as "ICE," according to FCPD spokesman Officer Eduardo Azcarate. The investigation most likely began with screening that ICE agents do of Internet activity, a source said. FCPD was brought in by ICE to help with the investigation and evidence was collected and found at Fenn's home in Herndon, according to Azcarate. No school …

It saddens me to see this happen more and more often in recent years. It is also unfortunate that the arrest had to occur at the school as opposed to at his home before he got to school in the morning. Going to be some interesting conversations around the dinner table tonight I suspect.   more ›
