House Passes Bill on School Security Infrastructure Fund Sponsored by Del. David Ramadan
If passed, the Virginia Public School Authority would be authorized to issue up to $6 million each year in grants to school divisions to buy security equipment.
The House of Delegates passed a bill Monday that creates the Public School Security Equipment Grant Act of 2013. If passed, the Virginia Public School Authority would be authorized to issue up to $6 million each year in grants to school divisions to buy security equipment to improve and ensure the safety of students. Local school divisions could apply for grants to make capital infrastructure improvements to correct identified security equipment needs. Del. David Ramadan (R-87th) joined with Del. Beverly Sherwood (R-29th) in introducing the bill. “This fund will help schools get the equipment and upgrades they need to keep our children safe in their classrooms,” Ramadan said Monday in a news release.
