A single-car crash early Thursday morning on the southbound ramp from Interstate 395 to westbound Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) has left a Chantilly man dead, according to Virginia State Police.
A. Tawab Ebadi, 25, of Chantilly, was in the backseat of the car and died at the scene around 2:41 a.m.
Virginia State Police have identified Javed Hussaini, 25, of Manassas, as the driver involved in the crash. Police have determined that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
VSP said Hussaini was traveling through the I-395 southbound ramp when his Audi A8 ran off the road, spun around and struck a tree. The car struck the tree hard enough to split it in half and cause it to jump over the guardrail and land on the exit ramp. The two passengers in the back seat were ejected from the vehicle.
The other passengers in the vehicle, Ilyas Qualandri, 23, of Springfield, and Fernanda Ferrufino, 23, of Alexandria, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Hussaini was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital and then to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center. He has been charged with DUI-related manslaughter.
Police said the scene was cleared and lanes re-opened by 8:55 a.m. on Thursday.
