The Fairfax County Summer Reading Program encourages children and teens to read for pleasure during summer vacation. It is held in cooperation with Fairfax County Public Schools. Here's a little bit about the program, courtesy of Fairfax County:

  • The Summer Reading Program runs to August 31 .
  • Kids from birth to 6th grade read 15 books. Children can have books read to them. Using library reading lists is not required.
  • Students in grades 7-12 read eight books.
  • Sign up and record your books online or get a reading log at your library.
  • Complete your reading and come in to your library branch by August 31 to receive a coupon book full of free and discounted prizes.
  • One coupon book per reader; lost coupon books will not be replaced.
  • There will be special prize drawings for kids who finish their books.
  • Watch a video about the program.
  • Win cash prizes in the essay and poetry contest for rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders.
  • If you attend a year-round school or have special circumstances please contact your local library.
